A famous bald eagle couple in California had their eggs eaten by ravens.
The two eggs belonged to Jackie and Shadow, whose nest is watched by thousands via a live stream camera which was installed by advocacy group Friends of Big Bear Valley and streams to YouTube 24/7.
Just before 3pm on March 7, thousands watched in distress as two ravens swooped into the nest, broke open the eggs, and started feeding.
Jackie hatched the eggs on camera in early January and until last week the two took it in turns to supervise them in the nest. Ordinarily bald eagle eggs should hatch within about 35 days, causing the pair to gradually lose faith.
Eventually, after some squabbling, the pair agreed to abandon the eggs, creating an opening for the two ravens to make an appearance just days later.
