Melbourne Airport has been voted the best in the Australia-Pacific region - but the gong has been met with disbelief from regular travellers who have called it a 'joke'.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards held in Amsterdam ranked the airport at number 19 overall on Wednesday night, up seven places from its position last year.
Melbourne was the only one that made the top 20 while Brisbane Airport landed not too far behind at number 23. Sydney's facility came in at a lowly 49th place.
Melbourne Airport workers also eclipsed the competition as the best staff in the region, while the Gold Coast took out the gong for best regional airport.
But airline passengers received the news of Melbourne's win with disbelief, with many claiming it was in fact one of the worst airports.
'Is this a joke? I think it is [the worst]. It's like stuck in the 1990's,' one commenter on social media posted in response.
