Anthony Albanese has taken to Instagram to show off his new pair of aviator sunglasses gifted to him by American President Joe Biden.

The Australian Prime Minister, 60, appeared to have struck up a friendship with new pal Biden, 80, after they appeared together at a navel base in San Diego to announce details of the historic AUKUS security pact.

'Thanks for the present @JoeBiden,' Mr Albanese wrote.

Biden was snapped during the official AUKUS press conference wearing a similar pair of sunnies - though it's not known if this was the same pair given to Albanese.

Many commenters drew comparisons to the 1980s movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise as a navy fighter pilot and it's 2022 sequel Maverick in which the actor famously sports similar shades.
