Neighbour of prolific shoplifter reveals she would always travel elsewhere to ... trends now

A neighbour of the prolific shoplifter who made £500,000 by tricking stores into giving refunds reveals how she would always travel elsewhere to 'commit her crimes'.

The local said that Narinder Kaur, 53, was 'actually really lovely' and outwardly nice, but the community knew 'what she's really like.'

They added that Kaur, also known as Nina Tiara and Nina Dalman, would often 'be away on "holiday"' but the community believes she was actually 'in prison' for 'similar crimes.'

Kaur this week was convicted of all 26 counts on an indictment which included fraud, possessing and transferring criminal property and perverting the course of justice.

Kaur of Wiltshire had 'made it her full-time career' to pinch items from high street shops for four years before she was caught and tried at Gloucester Crown Court.

Her neighbour said that despite being a prolific criminal, she treated the members of her community with kindness - and didn't commit crimes locally.

'She's actually really lovely, she'll always give you compliments and chat away, but everybody around here knows what she's really like,' the local told MailOnline last night.

'But honestly we've never had any trouble from her here, I'm glad she goes elsewhere to commit her crimes.

'She's often away on "holiday" but she's really in prison. She's just finished serving eight months or so, we think for similar crimes.'

The 53-year-old repeated this scheme at hundreds of occasions at various stores across the UK including Boots, TK Maxx, HomeSense and John Lewis.

She is thought to be living in a house owned by another family member. It is also believed that she has been previously married and has one son.

Public records show Kaur has been either secretary or director of at least seven companies since 1999 while living in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

During the trial, prosecutor Gareth Weetman said Kaur's crime spree had been halted when police examined her bank and credit cards and found 'an extraordinary history of refund payments'.

Kaur also defrauded solicitor firms as she instructed them to sue her brother and then used male accomplices to pay compensation with stolen credit cards - which was forwarded to Kaur.

She 'failed to be deterred' despite being charged, and lied to the court to secure alterations in her bail conditions for medical appointments so she could steal again, the prosecutor said.

But while trying to get a refund at Dunelm in Swindon she raised suspicions and was arrested.

Police then searched her house and found £108,000 in cash, along with 49 shopping bags full of goods.

Kaur had defrauded various retailers over a thousand times between July 2015 and February 2019, the prosecution proved after close examination of her bank and various credit card accounts.
