Donald Trump's former attorney said he thinks the the ex-president is hoping to cause 'violent clash' akin to the January 6 insurrection with recent social media posts about his impending arrest.

Michael Cohen said Trump's posts this week were 'eerily similar' to the 'battle cry' he delivered during a speech in 2021, which many believe was a veiled order for protesters to raid the US Capitol building and disrupt election proceedings.

On Saturday morning Trump wrote on Truth Social that he'd been leaked information from the Manhattan District Attorney's office suggesting he would be arrested Tuesday as a part of its investigation into hush-money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels while he was running for president in 2016.

In the post, Trump called on his supports to 'protest, take our nation back!' a statement which Cohen told MSNBC was noteworthy for the former president's decision no to include the word 'peaceful.'

Trump's post has already sparked furor from his supporters, with some planning to join together to create a 'MAGA moat' surrounding his Mar-a-Lago compound, and others calling on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to refuse extradition to New York authorities.

Cohen added it was likely Trump was hoping an arrest might rally his supporters and become a boost for his 2024 presidential campaign.

Cohen, who admitted to organizing the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels and plead guilty to violating campaign finance laws in 2018, spoke with MSNBC on Saturday after Trump released his post.

'It's eerily similar to the battle cry that he put out just prior to the Jan. 6 insurrection, you know, especially including the call, you know, for protest,' he said.

'And I agree, it would have been smart for Donald to write 'peaceful protest,' but he doesn't want a peaceful protest.'
