Fuming Melania Trump spent several nights at a posh D.C. hotel to keep away from the White House when news broke alleging the then-president had paid porn star Stormy Daniels for keeping quiet about their one-night stand, sources tell DailyMail.com.
It was just what Donald Trump had feared when he arranged to pay the porn star $130,000 in hush money 15 months earlier, a source close to the former president said.
'Trump was beside himself that Melania would find out the details of his indiscretion – an indiscretion with a porn star no less.
'He knew what the consequences could be and he would do whatever he could to keep a lid on it.'

Trump, 74, claims that he will be arrested on Tuesday on New York state charges he falsified business records and campaign finance violations related to reimbursing his then lawyer Michael Cohen for $130,000 to keep the porn star quiet.
He denies both any wrongdoing and the affair with Daniels, 44, and has called the case politically motivated. He described the payment to Daniels as a 'nuisance payment' that wealthy people sometimes pay to make a problem go away.
Still, the former first lady, now 52, opted for time away from her husband when the payoff to Daniels was reported by The Wall Street Journal in January 2018.
After the piece a celebrity magazine then published a cringe-worthy 2011 interview with Daniels in which she talked about the 2006 sexual encounter with the future president in a hotel room at a casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada following a celebrity charity golf tournament.
The magazine had held on to the interview for seven years before publishing it.
'It was upsetting and humiliating; her relationship with President Trump became strained,' a source told DailyMail.com after news of the payment broke.

Daniels, who has starred in movies such as Good Will Humping and Operation Desert Stormy and has just finished filming her latest Lawless, claimed she could intimately describe the president's manhood and even revealed sex positions they had enjoyed during their 2006 trust.
At the time of the fling, Melania was caring for her and Trump's then-four-month-old son Barron.
East Wing communications director Stephanie Grisham told DailyMail.com at the time that the first lady's decision to forgo the trip to Davos was based on 'scheduling and logistical issues'.
Grisham – who has since had a public falling out with the Trumps – had said the First Lady had intended to go to Davos as a show of support for her husband, who delivered a speech at the forum.
One well-placed source said in 2018: 'Melania spends three to four days a week away from the White House and has stayed at a hotel in D.C. multiple times in January, often for days at a time. She also travels up to New York.
'She rarely comes into his West Wing office as other first ladies have done and her schedule is vague at best.
'She seems to be avoiding duties unless there is a very special reason.
