Glossy food magazine Delicious has been brutally trolled by chefs and its readers after it issued a 'lukewarm' apology for publishing a crude comment about a waitress' outfit.

In February, food critic John Lethlean wrote a review for Perth's Shui restaurant that included the line: 'The maitre d'/meet and greeter wears an outfit that threatens to expose more than just her inexperience when she bends over to set a table'.

Lethlean - who made his name at The Australian and for calling out social media influencers looking for a free feed - was widely criticised for the 'sexist and pervy' review, which was soon removed.

Chef and author Christine Manfield called for an industry-wide boycott and wrote 'the bar is so low, they wallow in mud - shame on you @deliciousaus'.

'Anyone with any integrity in the hospo [hospitality] industry should be jumping ship ASAP - disassociate to save your credibility,' she added.

'When we realised the mistake we had made in publishing the sentence, we took the review down, and made steps to personally reach out to the restaurant and the staff member and apologise to them directly,' they wrote.
