Man who 'helped armed gang steal £72k watch from Amir Khan' claims he didn't ... trends now An alleged robber accused of helping steal a £72,000 diamond-encrusted watch from former world boxing champion Amir Khan said he was 'shocked' when he found out about the theft. Mr Khan, 36, was targeted for his bespoke rose gold Franck Muller Vanguard Chronograph as he dined with wife Faryal, 31, and friend Omar Khalid at the Sahara Grill in Leyton. An armed robber ran at Khan and yelled at him to 'take off the watch' on April 18 last year. Jurors have heard the 'gunman' Dante Campbell, 21, along with Ahmed Bana, 25, have admitted conspiracy to rob and possession of an imitation firearm. CCTV shows the Bolton-born fighter smiling as he leaves the Sahara Grill with his wife. He crosses the road to get into a car driven by Mr Khalid. Two men get out of a silver Mercedes coupe parked up in front as hooded Campbell runs towards Mr Khan. Campbell raises his right arm to point the gun at Mr Amir who hands over his watch. Amin and Mohammed were said to be 'spotters' who sat at a table a few feet away from Mr Khan, his wife and Mr Khalid in the eatery. But Mohammed has told the court he did not 'personally know who Amir Khan was.' He said that he found out who he was when people started taking selfies with him. CCTV footage shows a Vauxhall driving past the Sahara Grill after they had all left, before it parked in Wilmot Road. Mohammed claimed he was doing a drug deal with Bana but he complained he felt uncomfortable as people were 'watching us' and they drove away. Asked if he had any idea if others including Bana and Campbell were involved in a robbery Mohammed replied: 'I had no idea. No one told me they were going to commit a robbery. 'I did not know that Dante Campbell had a firearm.' He said at one point another man, Hamza Kulane, took a phone call from Ahmed Bana. 'I remember him (Kulane) panicking and tapping me on the shoulder saying 'drive, drive!' 'I drove. I asked what was going on. He said 'Ahmed's got into a madness', which Mohammed explained meant he had got into an 'incident'. Mohammed said he drove to Bana's cousin's address in Homerton where he was told about the robbery. Asked how he felt when he was told that Amir Khan had been robbed Mohammed replied: 'I was shocked. 'I was in the restaurant with him. I knew it could look like I was a suspect. I had been ringing him. 'I knew it could look wrong on me.' The former boxing world champion pictured with his wife Faryal Makhdoom, 31, (right) told the court about his ordeal Giving evidence last week Mr Khan, who now lives in Dubai, told the court of his terror as he was left staring down the barrel of a gun in front of his screaming wife. 'I am a sportsman, a fighter, I have been put in the toughest situations but this is something different, this is really really scary,' he said. 'When he put the gun to my face I couldn't recognise him because he had a mask on. I looked away because I didn't want him to pull the trigger. 'I didn't know what he wanted at first, then he said take off your watch. When he said 'take off your watch' that's when it hit me straight away. 'I took it off straight away and that's when I handed it to him.' Campbell, of Hornsey, and Bana, of Tottenham, have admitted conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. Amin, of Cavendish Road, Finsbury Park, and Mohammed, of Edmonton, both deny conspiracy to commit robbery. Khan and Makhdoom married in New York in 2013 and have three children. The trial continues.
