A parent at a Queensland high school where a female teacher has been accused of grooming and performing an 'indecent act' on a male student said the teacher was very popular with students.

Chelsea Jane Edwards, 28, from Paradise Point, south-east of Brisbane, was charged with two counts of grooming and one count of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16 while working at Indooroopilly State School.

The parent, who has children in grades 11 and 8, said on Monday night the school community hadn't been notified at all - this is despite her being on leave for more than a week after she was charged on March 10.

'Bit surprised at that as I'd have thought they'd want to alleviate concerns before the news got out from other sources,' he told The Courier Mail.

'The kids are shocked and saddened as they really like her,' he said.
