BWS liquor stores are reducing operating hours and beefing up security following the tragic stabbing death of a 20-year-old worker.

Business owner Endeavour Group announced on Thursday its 16 Northern Territory stores will shut at 6pm following the death of Declan Laverty at the BWS Airport Tavern drive-through in Jingili, north-east Darwin.

A spokesperson for BWS told Daily Mail Australia the further reduction in hours and increase in security were being brought as additional safety measures after consulting staff as alcohol-fuelled violence continues to haunt the Top End.

Meanwhile on Wednesday night police arrested a man at trendy inner-city Darwin bar The Loading Bay for allegedly threatening a staff member with a bladed weapon.

Police made the arrest at around 7pm at the bar  in Austin Lane near the city's waterfront area.

The 25-year-old man faces charges of being armed with an offensive weapon, assault of a worker, and disorderly behaviour. 

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court. 

The fatal stabbing of Declan happened as he finishing his shift at 9pm on Sunday - which was the latest time that BWS outlets closed in the Northern Territory after the chain had already cut opening hours in February. 

The young worker was allegedly stabbed by Keith Kerinauia after denying the 19-year-old service.

Despite the best attempts of a co-worker and witnesses to revive Declan he bled to death at the scene.
