Britain has been warned to brace for flooding as river levels are set to rise with a number of warning in place across the country.

The Government today issued 39 flood warnings and 83 flood alerts across England while vehicles have been seen driving through waters during high tides.

Several flood warnings were issued across Devon today, following a night of heavy rain and gusty winds, with pictures on social media showing flooded roads and vehicles struggling to pass.

The Environment Agency issued five warnings in Devon along with four other alerts.

However, the warnings have not been confined to just the south west of England, as East Sussex, Hampshire and the Cumbrian coastline will be affected too.

In its long range forecast for 27 March to 5 April, the Met Office has said that Brits can expect 'coastal showers, wintry in places, across the northeast accompanied by stronger winds'
