NSW election 2023: Map shows how the Labor Party now runs the entire Australian ... trends now

The entire Australian mainland at state and federal level is now all governed by the Labor Party after Chris Minns stormed to victory in the NSW election.

Tasmania remains the only jurisdiction controlled by the Coalition with the Liberal and National Party copping a backlash from voters in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

Voters in NSW abandoned the Coalition after 12 years in power, with the crushing election defeat showing a massive swing to Labor.

Other state and territory elections followed an identical trend with strong-hold seats gradually wrestled away by Independents, the Greens and Labor.

In the case of NSW, Daily Mail Australia has identified the three key reasons why voters turned on Dominic Perrottet and the Liberal Party.

All Australian mainland states and territories are commanded by Labor governments, with Tasmania being the outlier as the only Liberal-run state

Cost of Living and the sell off of public assets

Voters rated rising cost of living pressures as the most important issue in the lead up to the vote with inflation soaring to 7.8 per cent and 10 consecutive cash rate hikes.

Chris Minns has promised to slash energy bills for families by $250 and for small businesses by $315, as part of a proposed $485million Energy Relief Fund to ease some of the financial pressure.

Labor has also vowed to end the privatisation of public assets in a bid to lower everyday costs for Aussies.

Mr Minns called for the creation of a state-owned energy company named the Energy Security Corporation.

The move proved popular with voters facing sprialling power bills.

So did Mr Minns' promise to amend the NSW constitution to ensure Sydney Water and Hunter Water stay in public hands following revelations the NSW Liberal Party under Mr Perrottet had plans to sell off parts of the asset to a Chinese firm.

During the campaign Labor announced that stamp duty will be scrapped or reduced for first home buyers for purchases up to $800,000 and land tax is set to be abolished.

The new government says 30 per cent of all homes built on surplus government land will be allocated for social and affordable housing.

Mr Minns says his government will review and overhaul Sydney's toll roads, with a $60 weekly toll cap for drivers.

Labor are also set to abolish the three per cent public sector wage cap and negotiate wages on a sector-by-sector basis.
