A man has been arrested after four bin men were attacked by thugs wielding axes and a metal pole in two coordinated attacks, with three further suspects remaining at large.
Staffordshire Police said the two shocking attacks happened within about half an hour of each other on Tuesday morning in two suburban areas of Stoke-on-Trent.
The force was first called to Fairhaven Grove just after 11.15am on Tuesday when a bin lorry was damaged and a refuse worker in his 50s taken to hospital with head and facial injuries when punched and hit with a metal pole.
Then, at 11.50am at nearby Birches Head Road, three axe-wielding men attacked three bin men and smashed up their wagon.
That second attack left a bin man being taken to hospital with head, face and torso injuries while two others were treated at the scene.

The two refuse workers taken to hospital were both later discharged and the attacks saw Stoke-on-Trent City Council stop bin collections for that day.
