Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman were heckled over the Channel boats crackdown during a walkabout in Essex today.

The PM and Home Secretary were berated by a lone protester as they took a brief stroll through the streets of Chelmsford this morning before formally launching an anti-social behaviour drive.

Although the politicians were flanked by police did not stop to chat to any locals, the quiet was broken by a woman shouting 'go away, we don't want you here' and 'allow migrants into our country'.

The scenes came as Ms Braverman looks to have averted an immediate showdown with Tories pushing to toughen up the Channel legislation.

Rebels have indicated they are unlikely to push amendments today that would completely block Strasbourg from interfering in deportations.

Ringleaders say talks with the Home Secretary have been 'very positive' - although they are waiting to hear from her in the Commons later before confirming they will not force a vote.
