The 25 most disaster prone counties in the US mapped trends now
A new report has laid bare the most disaster-prone counties in the US - unmasking communities in California and Florida as some of the most dangerous.
The findings may come as little surprise to some, given coastal states' increased likelihood of being stuck by natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires.
Coincidentally, those phenomenon - recently represented by rampaging Hurricane Ian and a slew of summer fires - serve as the two most common culprits among the counties deemed most threatening to residents.
In all, 25 counties were analyzed, with 19 of them split between the Golden and Sunshine states.
The next-riskiest state, in terms of number of counties represented, was Louisiana - another locale notorious for extreme weather events - with three of its southernmost counties, including New Orleans, appearing in the top ten.

The worst offender, however, was Los Angeles County, according to Forbes Advisor, who tallied the number of Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster declarations over the past decade when tabulating the results.
According to the data published Monday, the county housing well-heeled cities like LA and Long Beach accounted for 22 weather- and climate-related disasters since 2013.
For reference, the entire nation recorded 341 billion-dollar weather and climate disasters over the past 43 years, amounting to damages to the tune of roughly $2.48trillion.
