A Russian actor has slashed his wrists in front of a live audience in protest against the theatre firing its director for opposing Putin’s war in Ukraine.
During a curtain call with fellow members of his cast in the city of Ulan-Ude, eastern Siberia, Artur Shuvalov told the audience the theatre had been bullying him ever since for supporting the then-director.
Saying the theatre was ‘harassing’ him and withholding his pay, he then produced a knife from his pocket before telling the stunned audience that the theatre had also fired his actress wife.
Telling the audience the theatre’s management ‘are responsible for my death’ he then began slicing the knife through his right arm.
Video posted on Twitter shows the audience and fellow actors gasping in horror as other members of the cast rush over to help him.
