Paperchase stores nationwide are holding huge closing-down sales this weekend ahead of all 106 stores shutting their doors for good on Monday.

It comes after the stationery giant was plunged into administration at the end of January, affecting hundreds of jobs.

Shoppers rushed to get last minute bargains ahead of the closure, with discounts of up to 80 per cent in most stores.

In one store in Newbury last week, which has since closed down, cards were being flogged for as little as 10p with price cuts starting at 80 per cent.

Tesco acquired the gift and stationery brand out of administration in February in a deal that did not include its stores or employees, putting 800 jobs in the firing line.

Fans of the chain have expressed their upset at the closure online, with many rushing to stores this weekend ahead of their permanent closure.

While many expressed their excitement at securing cut-price stationery, they also described going for their final shop there as 'bittersweet'.

One customer who was pleased with their final purchase said: '80% off closing down sale in Paperchase! Just got a lined notebook £1.60 down from £8. It's only worth about £1.60 but that is besides the point.'

Another said: 'In Paperchase for their final weekend, feels a bit like a vulture picking at the carcass what with it being 80% off. Sad to see it go.'

And another shopper added: 'I got loads of stuff for next to nothing, but I am going to miss this place'.

According to The Sun, 38 stores remain open this weekend in locations including Bath, Birmingham and spots around London (see full list below).

Dozens more of the shops have already closed, in cities including York, Belfast and Plymouth.

On top of this, all concession stands in Next and Selfridges stores have now closed.
