Daniel Andrews has fired up over suggestions Barry Humphries' family turned down a state funeral in Victoria because of him.
The late comic, best known for his portrayal of Dame Edna Everage, tragically died in April aged 89 following complications from a hip surgery, and will be farewelled in a joint state funeral in Sydney.
The family declined an offer to host the funeral in Melbourne, despite it being his home city. There have been several reports that Humphries would have opposed a state funeral in Melbourne because of his dislike toward Premier Dan Andrews.
But Mr Andrews today rejected those suggestions, taking aim at entertainment reporter Peter Ford, who first reported them after speaking with sources close to Humphries.
'I'm not here to have an argument with anybody, least of all an entertainment reporter. But what has been reported is wrong,' the premier said on Friday.
'The reason I know it is wrong is because I got a text last night from Barry Humphries' eldest son Oscar, making a couple of points. One, they've got no problem with Victoria and our government.
'Secondly, this misinformation and absolute nonsense that is just fiction is just making a difficult time harder. Misinformation is the last thing they need as they mourn their father.
