An Open University worker who was sacked for a racist tweet about Star Wars actor John Boyega has lost a legal case after trying to claim he was discriminated against.

Far-right campaigner Alec Cave - who believes the British actor 'should not be treated as an Englishman' - tried arguing his views amounted to a 'philosophical belief' and that Open University discriminated against him by sacking him.

The project coordinator at the University, was fired after he tweeted Boyega saying 'why does a person who speaks and acts like a foreigner expect to be treated the same as an Englishman in England?'

Cave, who has been seen at far-right protests, also told a prominent British-Nigerian lawyer 'f*** off and go home', a tribunal heard.

Cave is a proud English Nationalist who does not believe in equal rights, believes black and Jewish people are 'not part of the English nation', and that a person's ancestry determines how British they are, the hearing was told.

He thinks black people should have less priority to social housing than 'British people' and thinks Islam-converts are 'less British'.

After his sacking from the university, Cave tried to sue the institution at an employment tribunal.

However, Employment Judge Isabel Manley dismissed his case and said his opinions are so extreme they are 'akin to Nazism'.

Judge Manley ruled his views cannot amount to a protected belief as they are 'incompatible with human dignity' and 'not worthy of respect'.

The tribunal in Cambridge heard Cave was in his post as a project coordinator from October 2018.

Online, he poses under the name 'Wesley Russell' and set up right-wing channel 'Renew Britannia' on Twitter and YouTube.

Until recently he also belonged to Patriotic Alternative, a right-wing movement which has been described as 'Britain's Fascist Threat'.

According to reports online he attended far-right protests and even made a Nazi salute when he gatecrashed a meeting about refugees at a hotel.

The tribunal heard Cave was sacked by the University in July 2020 after he tweeted Boyega when the Star Wars actor used the word 'mandem' in a post.

Cave wrote to Boyega: 'Why does a person who speaks and acts like a foreigner expect to be treated the same as an Englishman in England? The entitlement of these people.'

At the tribunal, Cave said 'he didn't consider Mr Boyega to be British because he is of African descent, has (or had) a Nigerian flag on his Twitter account and
