Trump demands meeting with AG Merrick Garland 'as special counsel prepares to ... trends now

Lawyers for Donald Trump demanded a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland as a Justice Department investigation into the former president's handling of classified documents shows signs of winding down.

Trump posted the letter to his Truth Social platform Tuesday, in which his lawyers claimed that he is 'being treated unfairly.'

Attorneys John Rowley and James Trusty asked for the meeting to discuss 'the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors.'

It was not immediately clear what specifically prompted the letter, but is comes just after the Wall Street Journal reported that the yearlong documents probe appears to be nearing an end.

Trump has not yet been charged in connection to the classified document handling and raid on his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

'Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter, and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly,' the lawyers wrote in the letter.

'We request a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors.'

The language of the letter echoed some of Trump's own complaints in recent months about the investigations being led by special counsel Jack Smith.

Smith has finished collecting evidence into how confidential presidential files ended up at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week.

The newspaper, citing people familiar with the matter, said Trump allies expect an indictment to be served.
