Football fans have slammed Ivan Toney after the Football Association today revealed the full reasoning behind his eight-month ban from the sport.

The Brentford and England striker, 27, bet on his own clubs to lose on 13 occasions and provided inside information to a friend regarding when he was starting a match.

Toney, who has been diagnosed as a gambling addict, was today labelled a 'disgrace' by furious fans who accused him of abusing his position following the bombshell report.

He drew particular ire from Newcastle United supporters as it emerged he placed bets on the club to lose 11 separate times while still under contract. 

Taking to social media, one fan said: 'The Ivan Toney story that he was betting against his own club is a disgrace, sounds like he thought Newcastle would finish 20th after getting promoted instead they finished 10th. While Toney was struggling on loan at third division level just 4 goals in 24 games.'

Another added: 'So now we see that Ivan Toney bet against his own team 11 times... that has crossed a line for me and he fully deserves the punishment handed down.'

'A third wrote: 'Ivan Toney abused his position as a footballer for financial gain. Anyone that says he doesn’t deserve the ban is an idiot.

A fourth tweeted: 'This Ivan Toney is a right plank.'

Another wrote: 'Betting on your own team to lose.. and getting joy out of that loss.. that’s low.'

However, some fans have spoken out in support of the footballer, urging support for him to overcome the gambling addiction.

In the FA's bombshell written report, published today, it was revealed that Toney:
