A $40 a fortnight rise in welfare payments is one step closer for millions of Australians.
New laws boosting the rate of JobSeeker, along with other payments such as Youth Allowance and disability support pensions, were introduced to federal parliament on Thursday.
The changes were among the centrepieces of the government's most recent budget, forming part of a $14.6 billion cost-of-living relief package.
The base rate of the JobSeeker payment will be increased to $733.10 a fortnight as part of Anthony Albanese's $14.6billion cost of living package.
Older Australians will receive the biggest increase after the government lowered the age threshold for the higher rate of JobSeeker.
The age will be lowered from 60 to 55 for those who have received the payment for nine continuous months.
