Kerry Carty, 33, from Stockport, Manchester, struck gold when she bagged the bottle of booze at her daughter's school fair for just 50p. She had initially planned to give what she thought was a cheap bottle to family, but favourable odds led her to Google it instead. To her surprise, she discovered it was a 1982 Château Cos d'Estournel, Saint-Estèphe, - and it was selling for hundreds of pounds online. The mother stuck it on wine auction website, Bid For Wine, where her sale fetched a staggering £185. Kerry Carty, 33, from Stockport, Manchester, was over the moon when she won a bottle of red wine at her daughter's school tombola game - but that was just the beginning The mother paid 50p for her game ticket, which would eventually win her a bottle of 1982 Château Cos d'Estournel, Saint-Estèphe She said: ' I don't know anything about wine. I’m not a wine drinker and I’ve never drunk it as it gives me headaches - so to get £185 is amazing to me.' The delighted mother was shocked to learn that she'd won the prize at her six-year-old daughter, Madeline's, school tombola game. Kerry thought it would make the perfect Christmas present for her grandmother, and so placed it in a cupboard at home. However, as she was having a clear out a few days later she came across the bottle again, but this time it piqued her interest. To her shock, she saw some vintages of the Château Cos d'Estournel wine were selling for hefty sums, with the 1982 edition going for as high as £400. The 1982 Château Cos d'Estournel, Saint-Estèphe, fetched Kerry a staggering £185 on wine auction website Bid For Wine Kerry put the bottle up for auction, and four days later the wine sold. Now, she’s urging others to follow suit and investigate their wine racks for hidden fortunes which could be hiding in plain sight. Kerry added: 'I’m assuming it’s come from someone like me who’s been gifted this bottle of wine and just thought it could go to the school. 'I do feel bad, but as the saying goes, "one man's trash is another one’s treasure." 'From now on I’m going to check, my mum has already checked all her bottles that she has stored! 'I said to my mum I’d give it to nan for Christmas and had a bottle bag ready but my nan said she was glad I didn’t give it to her as she doesn’t drink red wine. 'I always see people saying "check your change, your antiques" - but I’ve never heard anyone say "check your bottles of wine."' She added that in times of hardship, people should hunt for hidden 'gold mines' at home, as you never know what could mysteriously turn up. Château Cos d'Estournel is produced at the eponymous winery in Bordeaux, France and is named after its 19th century owner, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel. The wine is typically a blend of 60 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 38 per cent Merlot and 2 per cent Cabernet Franc.
