Amazon is reportedly in talks with a host of wireless carriers to offer a free or low-cost mobile service to its Prime subscribers.
The ecommerce giant is said to have been negotiating a deal with Verizon, T-Mobile and Dish Network to get the lowest possible rate for customers.
The revelation prompted telecoms stocks to plummet on Friday morning, with T-Mobile and Verizon down 8.4 percent and 4.8 percent respectively.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that negotiations had been rumbling on for six to eight weeks but could take several months to launch if it goes ahead at all.
The deal would mean that Prime members could access wireless plans as cheap as $10 a month or even possibly be offered them for free.
