This is the shocking moment a man is caught kicking his puppy leaving it yelping in pain on a street near his home - as he avoids ban on owning pets.

Cameron Quilter, 24, was walking his seven-month-old whippet called Loki when he tripped over his pet and kicked it in apparent frustration.

The violent act was caught on a Ring doorbell camera outside his home.

He admitted a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog and was given a 12-month community order with 50 hours unpaid work.

Quilter, a warehouse worker, was also ordered to pay £145 costs and a £114 victim surcharge at Suffolk magistrates court in Ipswich.

But presiding magistrate Graham Smith told him that he would not face a ban on owning a dog as the court was satisfied that the incident was 'unlikely to be repeated'.

Prosecutor Lesla Small told the court how a local resident was at home when they heard a dog 'whimpering' outside on the Northfield View estate in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

The resident looked out at around 7.45pm on March 3 and saw a man picking up a dog and walking away.

Ms Small said: 'He immediately reviewed his Ring doorbell footage and saw a male appear to kick his dog, so he reported it to police.

'He didn't know the male in the footage, but it was clear that the incident had taken place.'

Suffolk Police released footage of the incident on March 10 and appealed for help from anyone recognising the man.

Ms Small said: 'As soon as the footage was shared over social media, the defendant contacted police and went into the police station for a voluntary interview.

'When he went in on March 10, he was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to an animal.
