The son of a former sports star is expected to fight a murder charge after allegedly stabbing a 17-year-old in the heart during an apparent botched drug deal.

Jaden Anthony Martinovich, 18, pleaded not guilty to murder on Wednesday morning at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court in Perth after an alleged carjacking in August last year.

Mr Martinovich appeared via video-link from Casuarina Prison as the court heard details about the alleged murder.

He is accused of killing the 17-year-old who he had met up with alongside two teen associates to allegedly sell drugs in a carpark near North Perth’s Bourke Street at 9:30pm on August 27, 2022.

Prosecutors say that Mr Martinovich was trying to sell a clip-seal bag full of salt, which he had claimed was meth, and had bought a fold-out knife to the carpark.
