The armed police unit descended on Fremlin Walk in Maidstone, Kent, yesterday as the children larked around with the toys. But their pleasure soon turned to pain in footage of the incident posted online on Tuesday. Extraordinary film showed armed and masked police, believed to be counter-terror officers round up the boys. The clip then shows the teenagers laid on their fronts as they are arrested in front of stunned shoppers. The video started with the children shown messing around with the gel guns in Maidstone The youngsters were using brightly-coloured versions of the gel blasters for their town fun The toys did not really resemble real firearms and looked more like a kind of water pistol They are playing with a gel blaster which is a toy gun which fires soft balls which are made out of gel. One of the members of the public can be heard remonstrating with the officers. She yells: 'Look, look what they are doing. 'They have got kids laying on the floor. But the video took a strange turn as armed police swooped on the scene to tackle them The youths were shown laying on the ground and appeared to have had their hands cuffed Regular officers were shown detaining the youths as they were filmed by one disgusted woman 'It's disgusting they are kids laying on the floor. 'This is dirty, this is disgusting.' One of the officers is then shown telling the member of the public to put the phone away. Kent Police last night did not respond to requests from MailOnline for an explanation on what had occured. The member of the public remonstrated with the officers but they refused to stop their action The shopper in Maidstone, Kent, appeared to be appalled at the police and their tactics But Gelsoft, a manufacturer of gel guns but not the ones in the video, says they should never be taken out or used in public. Its website says: 'Gel Blasters are only allowed to be used in private locations and settings, and must not be viewable from any public area. 'Gel Blasters can resemble real firearms and must be treated as if they are a real firearm to the general public.'
