Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth weekend weather trends now Aussies told to brace for a chilly long weekend - here's how the weather is looking in your city Wet weather system to hit Sydney Thursday afternoon Most of the country will see dry and chilly long weekend By Brett Lackey For Daily Mail Australia Published: 03:20 BST, 8 June 2023 | Updated: 03:20 BST, 8 June 2023 Viewcomments A widespread band of rainfall moving across eastern Australia should clear by Friday bringing chilly but fine weather to most parts of the country for the King's Birthday long weekend. The wet weather system that has drenched South Australia and sparked storm warnings for parts of Victoria will reach Sydney by Thursday afternoon before moving offshore on Thursday night. Weatherzone senior meteorologist Brett Dutschke told Daily Mail Australia another 'winter-like' cold front will develop in Perth later on the weekend but will weaken as it gets to the eastern states. A widespread band of rainfall has drenched SA and Victoria and is set to hit eastern NSW by Thursday afternoon before moving offshore on Thursday night The wet weather moving across eastern Australia should clear by Saturday and the weekend be mostly fine weather 'Longer term, the Bureau of Meteorology has declared an increased chance of El Niño developing which could bring drier and warmer days through winter and spring.' Australia has seen three consecutive years of the inverse La Niña weather pattern which was responsible for much of the rain that pummeled eastern Australia in 2021 and 2022. 'There might still be frosty outbreaks along with the warm and dry days because the sky will be clearer,' Mr Dutschke said. 'Also the drying out of grasses and bush bring increased fire risk into spring and next summer.' For the approaching long weekend, Mr Dutschke said the weather should remain clear for much of the country between Saturday and Monday. 'Sydney should stay dry all weekend once the rain clears on Friday.' 'But there will be chilly nights and mornings, especially in the west which will get near freezing in the early mornings; much cooler than in the past few days.' He said Canberra will also be cooler than it has been all week but should remain fine. 'There will be frost each morning as it will be below freezing but out of the wind it will be pretty pleasant during the day.' It will be chilly, however, especially in Sydney's west, Canberra and in Perth In Queensland which, along with WA, doesn't celebrate the King's Birthday this weekend there will be fine weather. 'There's a small chance of showers in Brisbane on Sunday and higher on Monday but they should be brief.' Victoria should also see a dry weekend in contrast to the recent rainfall. 'Melbourne is a good chance for a dry and somewhat warm weekend.' 'I don't recall many June long weekends where that has occurred.' Mr Dutschke said there will be more wind than further north which could make it seem colder but temperatures will be a little warmer than the June average. 'Hobart will probably see some showers on Saturday and feel winter-like but it will get drier on Sunday and Monday.' 'Sunday will get to 17 in Hobart which is about four or five degrees above average, so they even have something on Melbourne this weekend.' He said Adelaide will be dry for much of Saturday through to Monday in comparison to the last week. While Perth will 'probably be the wettest capital'. 'Showers are a fair chance on Saturday and Sunday but the second half of the weekend should be dry with increased sunshine.' 'Hobart is actually warmer than Perth on Sunday, which is unusual.' And further north, Darwin will be the 'sunniest capital' 'It will be dry all weekend which is normal for this time of year and will actually be a bit warmer than average.'
