A crocodile lover has hit out at a 'croc serial killer' after a well-known reptile was butchered with a chainsaw and filleted to feed dogs.

The head and spine of Lizzie the croc were found on the banks of the Daintree River in far north Queensland on May 18.

It comes after another croc was found discovered with its head hacked off at Cow Bay, north of Cairns last April - sparking fears the incidents were related.

Tour guide David White came to know the most recent victim as he took tourists up and down the river through his daily Solar Whisper cruise tours.

Mr White, who has witnessed the 'gentle soul' hatch many nests of baby crocodiles over the past two decades, said the croc's death had 'devastated' him.

'I feel like a man that's lost his family.'

The remains of the 'queen of the Daintree River' were found on the riverbank where he moors his boat.

Mr White recognised the distinct freckled features of the 2.7-metre crocodile he came to know when he saw the severed head.

'She was just left on the bank, filleted. All that was left was
