A GP accused of putting his semen into cups of coffee that he made for a woman told a jury today that he did not do it and he had no sexual interest in her.

Dr Nicholas Chapman, 55, of Taunton, has pleaded not guilty at Gloucester Crown Court to two charges of trying to engage a woman in sexual activity without her consent between September 12, 2020 and September 12, 2021.

His defence is that he has a medical condition causes him to emit semen when he defecates.

It is his case that he might have got semen on his hands while using the toilet and this could have transferred to the women's cup.

Asked by his barrister Virginia Cornwall if he had put his ejaculate into the cup he said: 'No, I did not place anything in the woman's coffee. I had no sexual interest in her.'

The prosecutor told the jury that the woman contacted the police and was told to put the evidence in the freezer.

She handed it over to the police three days later to an officer who put the contents into specialised containers. A subsequent laboratory test confirmed that the substance was semen and the DNA evidence led back to Dr Chapman, said the prosecutor.

The woman then told the police that it was not the first occasion when a cup of coffee made for her by Dr Chapman had 'tasted funny'.

The jury was told that Dr Chapman was arrested on September 27, 2021 and in
