Indictment lays out how Trump valet Walt Nauta found intelligence trends now

Trump aide Walt Nauta once told investigators he did not know where classified documents found in Trump's personal residence had previously been stored, but text messages in the 49-page Trump indictment show he did.

According to the indictment, on December 7, 2021, Nauta - who has also been indicted for his role in the scheme - found several boxes fallen and their contents spilled onto the floor of the storage room, including ones marked 'SECRET/REL TO USA.'

The information on those documents was only releasable to the Five Eyes intelligence alliance between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States.

'I opened the door and found this...' Nauta texted a Trump employee along with shots of the spill.

'Oh no oh no' the employee texted back.  'I'm sorry potus had my phone.'

Classified documents were on display in 'a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room' at Mar-a-Lago, according to the indictment.

Nauta was indicted for allegedly lying to the FBI by claiming he did not know the whereabouts of documents within the Trump residence.

The FBI has been probing whether Trump unlawfully retained classified documents since March 2022. In April, a grand jury issued a subpoena for Trump to turn over all documents with classified markings, but the indictment claims Trump instead 'endeavored to obstruct the FBI and grand jury investigations' by continuing to retain classified material.

According to the indictment, in a May 2022 interview Nauta told investigators he did not know where those documents had been stored before they were in the residence - though the text messages he sent reveal he did.
