NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell's shock resignation earlier this month came after she privately clashed with Mayor Eric Adams on a police disciplinary matter, according to a new report.

Prior to Sewell's June 12 resignation announcement, Adams had a direct conversation with the commissioner and put pressure on her not to discipline the department's top uniformed cop, The City reported on Friday, citing a person close to Sewell.

Despite the alleged pressure campaign, Sewell followed the recommendation of a civilian review board and docked 10 vacation days from Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, a close Adams ally who voided the gun arrest of a retired NYPD cop he'd once commanded.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, mayoral spokesperson Fabien Levy flatly denied The City's report that Adams had pressured Sewell, saying: 'The exchange the publication described involving the mayor never took place.'

But the source cited by the outlet described the alleged conversation as the final straw for Sewell, saying that 'she knew that if she bucked the mayor that hard on something that was that important to him that her days were numbered.'

'City Hall was putting a lot of pressure on her to go with no disciplinary action, to reject the CCRB'S (Civilian Complaint Review Board) findings … which she did not do,' the person said.

The twisted police drama dates back to November 24, 2021, when retired NYPD cop Kruythoff Forrester was arrested and charged with menacing a trio of youths with a gun in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

According to the CCRB report on the incident, the juvenile boys were strolling near the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Pacific Street around 9.30pm and playing with a basketball, which they threw in the air, striking the surveillance camera of a business.

The boys ran away, and they claimed Forrester chased after them waving a gun. Video showed part of the chase but did not capture the gun openly displayed.

Police responding to a 911 call found a gun in Forrester's waistband, and though he denied drawing it on the boys, he was arrested on suspicion of menacing.

Forrester had worked at Brownsville's 73rd Precinct when Maddrey was the commanding officer there.

Following Forrester's arrest, Maddrey barged into the stationhouse late at night and demanded the duty sergeant to void the arrest, video evidence showed.
