Coronel Aispuro became a beauty queen at age 17 when she won the 2007 Coffee and Guava Festival beauty pageant in Canelas, Mexico.
The Mexican-American dual national is also not the first in her family to have cartel links, as her dad, Inés Coronel Barreras, was one of El Chapo's top lieutenants before his arrest in 2013.

They enjoyed a whirlwind romance and Coronel Aispuro became his third wife when they married as she turned 18.
