Plant City Florida train crash: Six people including parents, their three kids ... trends now
Six people are dead, including three children, after a train crashed into their SUV over the weekend.
The incident happened Saturday at a private railroad crossing roughly 20 miles west of Tampa, and left five of the Escalade's passengers dead at the scene.
The driver involved, 52-year-old Jose Guadalupe Hernandez, initially survived, but succumbed to his injuries overnight after being rushed to a local hospital, cops said.
Five in the back including Hernandez's wife and three children - aged 9, 17, and 22 - were ejected from the vehicle upon impact, cops revealed Sunday, as they continue to probe what led to the crash.
What is known is all of the victims, aside from Hernandez, were rear passengers - with the other a 17-year-old friend of one of the deceased. As for the survivor, a boyfriend of Hernandez's adult child, he is in critical condition at a Lakeland hospital.

'On Saturday 9/23/23 my nephew Guillermo E. (Gordo/Doorbell) Gama III was involved in a fatal train wreck that stole the lives of an entire family,' a GoFundMe started by the 23-year-old Plant City man's aunt Sunday reads.
'The deceased victims were [Gama's] girlfriend, parents, 2 siblings and a friend of one of the siblings.'
The post - which within two hours amassed nearly $3,000 - went on to state how 'Gama is only 23 years old with a passion for life and family.
