Veterans have demanded the dismissal of a police chief who wore a Falklands War medal despite not taking part in the conflict.

Chief Constable Nick Adderley, 57, has been accused of 'stolen valour' for pinning the 1982 campaign medal to his chest – despite not joining the Royal Navy until two years later.

Adderley, who is facing a disciplinary probe, wore it alongside medals including the Northern Ireland General Service Medal at numerous high-profile events, including the 2022 Police Bravery Awards.

According to The Sun, he was just 15 at the time of the conflict.

In previous media statements Northamptonshire Police has referred to him as a Falklands veteran, including when the force won a gold award for outstanding service to the Armed Forces in July, part of the Ministry of Defence's Employer Recognition Scheme.

The 74-day conflict in 1982 involved 30,000 British troops, with 255 UK fatalties and 649 Argentines killed.

Military author Nigel Ely, 64, who fought in the epic 14-hour battle of Goose Green with the 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment (2 Para), told the Mail: 'I'm disgusted, appalled. This was so disrespectful to
