A furious mother has lashed out at Kmart after staff blocked her son from leaving the store under suspicions he had stolen clothes.

Claire O'Malley, from East Brisbane's Thornlands, said her son Zac, 19, was 'overwhelmed with stress and anxiety' after being stopped from walking out of Redlands Kmart on October 25.

Zac had purchased about $80 worth of work clothes at the store's self-serve kiosk that didn't produce a receipt of purchase.

Despite showing staff a relevant bank transaction from minutes prior, he claims he was told to go back and get his receipt, with the encounter lasting between 15 to 20 minutes.
