The top 10 most livable suburbs in Australia have been revealed - with a location in our most far-flung state taking out the top spot.

The Livability Census, conducted by data analysts at Place Score, has scored the livability of Australia by its suburbs and states.

Perth's inner-west suburb of Subiaco was voted the best Australian suburb to live in by locals who filled in the self-reporting survey.

Subiaco was praised for its connectivity to other areas, amenities, places to eat and shops.

Place Score founder Kylie Legge said the results showed that mixed-density inner-city environments with established landscapes are considered the most livable.

'New suburbs can’t compete with more than 100 years' worth of investment and amenity in the older suburbs,' she said.

The census gathered the responses of more than 50,000 residents across the country to rank their living situation via 50 different attributes.

Each area was then graded against a score of 100 for 'place experience', or PX.

New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia overwhelmingly dominated the list of suburbs with three top-10 entries each.

Meanwhile, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory failed to make even one appearance.

Noosa Shire, near the Sunshine Coast, scraped in as the tenth best suburb, but Queensland itself was voted the second worst overall state to live in.

Overall, Victoria was the best state to live in, holding a PX score of 70, which tied with the runner-up South Australia.

Queensland scored 66 and came in seventh, followed by the Northern Territory which was last on the list with a score of 63.

Queensland's poor score was blamed on a rapidly growing population, which is impacting on its infrastructure as it struggles to keep up.

A general trend of the list was that the overall livability of most areas scored slightly less than in 2021, with many suburbs and states losing a point or so.
