A teenage boy has emerged as the sole survivor of a devastating house fire that took the lives of his father, mother, and 17-year-old sister in rural Maine.
The fire occurred in the early hours of Thursday and claimed the lives of Erik Elmer, 47, Jessica Elmer, 39, and their 17-year-old daughter, Rose Elmer. The couple's youngest son survived the fire.
Fort Fairfield firefighters responded to the emergency after receiving the fire report around 2am and found that three people, along with their pets, had died in the fire.
Police said there was no indication of foul play in the fatal fire, and there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
The tragic incident took place at 85 Riverside Avenue in Fort Fairfield, a rural town nestled in Aroostook County, bordering Canada.
