A man tragically died after falling from a bathroom widow of a hotel in Cornwall while on holiday with his friends

Oliver Collier-Timpson, 25, died at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth in April of this year, after suffering what was described as a catastrophic traumatic brain injury consistent with a fall from height.

The 'larger than life' young man, from Cheshire, had enjoyed a pub crawl with friends around St Ives, before he entered the Harbour View House boutique hotel, a five-minute walk to the centre of town, and asked to use the toilet. 

He was allowed in despite the hotel not normally letting members of the public enter. Oliver's body was later found unresponsive at the rear of the property after his friends tracked his phone. Efforts were made to save him as he was airlifted to Derriford where he eventually passed away. 

Giving evidence at the inquest into Oliver's death, his mother Joanne Timpson said her son was 'a larger than life character, gentle and very loving'. Joanne described 6ft 4in Oliver as a keen rugby player who loved being outside and walking.

She said: 'He was very sociable and could chat to anyone. People would gravitate towards him and it was not uncommon for him to sit and talk to strangers on a night out.'

Joanne said her son was a straight A student from an academic background, and while he knew he was from a privileged background, he remained very down to earth and had done a lot of work helping the homeless.
