EXCLUSIVE

An extraordinary photo shows how a Melbourne couple's wedding ceremony came to a bloody end when a mystery attacker stabbed a guest in the stomach with a screwdriver before fleeing.

Maketh Bul and his bride Aluet Diing Aruai exchanged vows on Saturday at Williamstown's Holy Trinity Anglican Church in front of around 700 relatives, friends and community members.

But what started as a beautiful day ended in tragedy when one of their guests, a 25-year-old man, was shanked as the reception at the Croatian Centre in Sunshine West drew to a close during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Wedding guest Ajak Deng Chiengkou told Daily Mail Australia there was a 'sudden disturbance' by the entrance of the venue about 12.30am when glass candle holders smashed to the ground as he fell.

Moments later, brave witnesses desperately huddled around the victim and tried to stop the bleeding - while others called paramedics - and the mystery assailant disappeared.

Fearing he was dead, the victim's shocked female relatives began crying.

Despite initial reports that the man was stabbed in the neck, Mr Chiengkou said he was actually stabbed in the stomach area.

'Witnesses, particularly those close to the victim, were overwhelmed with emotion, fearing the worst,' Mr Chiengkou said.

'His aunties were deeply affected.'

The victim remained responsive as they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Laying on the ground, the man rested his head on his cousin's lap for support and remained still to prevent further bleeding.

No-one saw the attack or could identify the person responsible - although they are believed to be another wedding guest.

'Everyone, including me, was eager to know who had stabbed the young man lying on the floor at the entrance, yet, regrettably, no one was able to provide the crucial answers required,' Mr Chiengkou said.

As the victim was taken away by paramedics and loaded into the back of an ambulance, he bravely raised his upper body to signal to loved ones that he was ok.
