One of the alleged kingpins of a major drug gang has been deported to Australia after fleeing to Turkey while facing a string of serious organised crime-related offences.
The 28-year-old Sydney man was arrested when he landed in Darwin on Sunday afternoon.
The Australian Federal Police said the man has been a focus of the force's transnational offshore task force, known as Operation Gain, targeting the nation's most prominent overseas-based offenders.
He reportedly fled Australia in a fishing boat in 2022.
