A suspected gangland shooting that saw a mother 'killed in front of her teenage daughter' occurred along Hackney's 'Murder Mile' - a stretch of the East London borough where 11 people have been killed in two decades due to 'gang warfare.'

Police have said they are investigating whether the death of Lianne Gordon, 42, in Clapton is connected to a separate incident on Saturday in which shell casings were found.

At the time of Lianne's shooting on Tuesday evening, neighbours had assumed the loud bangs they had heard from the street were fireworks.

Tragically, the noises that shattered the early evening lull were a throwback to the area's violent past where the sight and sound of guns were all too common.

In years previous, the mile-long stretch of road between upper and lower Clapton was known as the most dangerous area in London.

In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Clapton Road, or as it was otherwise known the 'murder mile' was the site of eight fatal shootings.

Since 2001, two further victims - Moses Federo and Israel Ogunsola - have been added to the area's ignominious tally sheet.

And now with the death of Lianne Gordon, the area's reputation is back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Those who were present at the time of the senseless killing have told MailOnline the incident happened in a blaze of noise and confusion.

Three men approached Moses Federo, 25, before he was shot several times on Chatsworth Road.

He was seen running into a butcher's shop asking for help before collapsing nearby in a pool of blood. He died at the scene.
