These beer-guzzling, mullet-flaunting Floridians were out to break records - not stereotypes - at the inaugural Florida Man Games.

Hundreds gathered in St Augustine on Saturday to compete in a series of wild challenges to determine who among them was the best person to represent the stereotypical 'Florida Man'.

There was the 'Eat the Butt Challenge', 'Weaponized Pool Noodle Mud Duel', 'Evading Arrest Obstacle Course', 'Mullet Contest', 'Florida Ma'am Pin Up' and 'Florida Sumo'.

The first-of-its-kind festival, promoted as 'the most insane athletic showdown on Earth', was organized by Pete Melfi, the owner and founder of local news outlet The 904 Now.

The games were intended to poke fun at the state´s reputation for bizarre news headlines that often begin with 'Florida man' and ends with brawling, drinking, gunfire, reptile wrangling and other wild antics.
