Lee Anderson has reportedly been greeted with a standing ovation at a Conservative fundraiser, despite currently being suspended as a Tory MP.

The exclusive dinner was supposedly put on to raise money for Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith re-election campaign and promised Liz Truss as the guest of honour.

In January Mr Anderson and Mr Clarke-Smith dramatically resigned from their party roles in revolt against Rishi Sunak's Rwanda Bill, sending in their joint letter to the PM just moments before they voted against the Government whip.

Mr Anderson, an outspoken MP in the 'Red Wall' - Labour's traditional heartlands across the Midlands and North of England where the Tories made gains during the 2019 election - has refused to apologise for the remarks despite Mr Sunak labelling them 'wrong'.
