An Aussie mum's complaint about a day out at a family-friendly theme park has reignited debate over what is acceptable swimwear to wear in public.

The woman's trip to Wet'n'Wild on the Gold Coast with her children included spotting a number of women and teens wearing G-string and micro-bikinis in the kids' pool area.

Shocked by the sight, she took to a Facebook group for Brisbane mums to ask where the line stood for appropriate swimwear at a family-friendly water park.

'I have these types of swimwear and wear them often in my own pool. I am far from a prude and this is not a case of jealousy,' she wrote.

'However, I am curious as to what the general consensus is on wearing this at a family theme park. Particularly in the kids pool area. 

'It's not that I don't like it, it's just I don't feel it's an appropriate place for it.'

The mother went on to question how other patrons would feel if men wore the revealing swimwear, or if nipple covers would also be acceptable to wear?

A number of mothers chimed in on the issue, with many questioning if the swimwear was inappropriate or 'does the person wearing this just look attractive'.

'I think you need to ask yourself why this bothers you so much. If these women are happy and confident wearing it then who are they harming?' one user
