Ticketless parking fines have been scrapped following a massive backlash, and instead, the traditional paper parking tickets are being reintroduced.
The ticketless system, introduced as a trial in May 2020, sparked criticism from motorists who argued that it was unfair.
If drivers broke parking rules under the ticketless system, they wouldn't find out for weeks until they got a fine letter in the mail. This delay made it hard for them to challenge the fine.
NSW Finance Minister Courtney Houssos contacted councils across the state this week ordering them to go back to using paper tickets when issuing parking fines, and banned any future councils from introducing the scheme.
