A controversial music festival in western Victoria has been cancelled after a 20-year-old man was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

In a statement on Sunday afternoon, organisers of the Pitch Music & Arts 2024 festival said it would cancel the remainder of the event in Moyston - about 15km west of Ararat.

'Nobody is in immediate danger. We encourage everyone on site not to rush, calmly pack-up and depart either this evening or early tomorrow,' it said.

'Please remember to stay hydrated, and be patient and calm with staff and each other.'

The festival, which started on Friday and was set to run through to Tuesday, saw three people hospitalised.
