One in five people across the UK and 14 other countries were victims of fraud in a two-year period - and many were targeted more than once, a major survey has found.

The most common type of scam was a ‘push payment’, in which the criminal tricks the individual into transferring money over willingly.

Yet over half of the respondents said they didn’t believe the issue was a government priority. The research by the public policy think tank Social Market Foundation was presented at the Global Fraud Summit 2024 yesterday.
