Meet North Korea's first family: Everything we know about Kim Jong Un's ... trends now

North Korean state media has referred to Kim Jong Un's daughter - Kim Ju Aye- as 'hyango' - igniting speculation that she may be next in line for the leading role in North Korea.

The North Korean term means a 'great person of guidance' and is exclusively reserved for leaders and their heirs.

Since 2022, the child whose age is unknown has regularly been referred to as the 'morning star of Korea' and 'beloved child' by North Korean outlets.

Analysts also believe her regular appearances alongside her father are a recurring theme, indicating a rise in her political standing.

But as questions arise about the plan of succession, who are the siblings of North Korea's leader? MailOnline take a look at the country's first family.

Who are Kim Jong Un's sisters?

Kim Jong Un's father, Kim Jong-il, had five wives officially, however the late North Korean leader only perceived one of them as legitimate.

Kim Young-sook, who was the daughter of a high ranking military official was the only partner Jong-il considered to be his 'official' partner.

The pair share two daughters - Kim Sul-song who was born in 1973 and Kim Chun-song who is believed to have been welcomed into the world between 1976 and 1977.

There are very few details reported about Kim Chun-song beyond her birth date.

According to Al-Jazeera, the couple's eldest daughter Kim Sul-song was the former leader's favourite child.

Sul-song is an established academic, and possesses the ability to speak several languages,

She also reportedly collaborated closely with her father as well as grandfather Kim il-Sung.

The 49-year-old was in charge of her father's schedule, security and travel plans, Al Jazeera reports.

However since the 2000s, the sister of the present North Korean leader has become a more discrete figure in the country's politics - despite continuing to be a high-ranking player.

Although she owns multiple large trading companies, it is not clear what her current role is in her brother's political regime.
