Two teenagers have died and a third was left fighting for his life after a horror crash with a lorry.

Both of the males, aged 17 and 19, who died were backseat passengers in the Vauxhall Corsa involved in the smash on Sunday.

The 17-year-old male driver was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, and was last night said to be in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old female, who was a front-seat passenger in the hatchback, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, but later released after treatment.

The lorry driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further inquires. Police Scotland said he was not injured.

The A91 in Stirling, between the Bannockburn Interchange and Greencornhills Roundabout, was shut for 11 hours after the fatal accident at around 3.50pm.

Stephanie McNib was travelling from Glasgow when she passed through the interchange around 40 minutes later.

She said: ‘As I got round the roundabout I had never seen so many blue lights and emergency service vehicles.

‘I could see three fire engines, five or six police or more, three or four ambulances and there was an air ambulance helicopter in the field.
